A number of Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) calls have been announced which NERC are providing some co-funding support:
- Global Agriculture and Food Systems (led by BBSRC) http://www.bbsrc.ac.uk/funding/filter/gcrf-agriculture-food-systems/
- Global Infections (led by MRC) http://www.mrc.ac.uk/funding/browse/mrc-global-challenges-research-fund-foundation-awards/
- Non-Communicable Disease – Beyond Infections (led by MRC) http://www.mrc.ac.uk/funding/browse/mrc-global-challenges-research-fund-foundation-awards/
The GCRF was announced as part of the 2015 spending review, to ensure that UK research takes a leading role in addressing the problems faced by developing countries. The Research Councils have each received directly allocated portions of the GCRF, some of which has been committed to these calls.
These calls provide an excellent opportunity for interdisciplinary research in the Valuing Nature area, and the global agriculture and food systems call in particular has a lot of relevant to Natural Capital. Further information on the calls can be found here: http://www.bbsrc.ac.uk/gcrf
Closing date for Expressions of Interest: 4pm 22 June 2016.
