How to speak for biodiversity - results of a BESAFE study

A new report, 'How to Argue for Biodiversity Conservation More Effectively', presents advice on how to engage people in biodiversity conservation.

Published by BESAFE (Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services: Arguments for our Future Environment), it is designed to provide an answer as to why biodiversity is still in decline despite growing evidence that it is essential for human well-being.

It recommends:

  • stakeholder engagement,
  • the promotion of bottom-up initiatives at a local level,
  • arguments tailored to the audience,
  • the use positive arguments, and
  • the use a wider range of arguments
